I have said that I wanted to make English poems that can be read for pleasure; in Dryden's words:
"a passable beauty when the original Muse is absent."
But I believe a translation should be good, but not too good;
it should leave a reader with the sense that more, much more, can be found in the original work.
This goal, at least, I am sure to have achieved.
